Birdie Gunyon Meyer is an RN with a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Counseling. She was the Founder of the Perinatal Mood Disorders Program at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is Certified in Perinatal Mental Health, and is an internationally known expert and speaker.

She is a Past-President and Past-Chair of Education and Training for Postpartum Support International and currently serves as the Director of Certification and Training. PSI is the world's largest non-profit organization dedicated to helping those suffering from perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.  Birdie is also on the Advisory Council for PSI and for the International Childbirth Education Association. Birdie specializes in the recognition and treatment of pregnancy and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders. Birdie is interviewed frequently for radio, television, and print media. She is a co-author of a book chapter for Behavioral Health Services with High-Risk Infants & Families.

Birdie is highlighted as a PMD expert in PSI’s video that is shown around the country. “Healthy Mom, Happy Family:  Understanding Pregnancy and Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders”. Birdie has been speaking to audiences for over 25 years and is an International Trainer for PSI’s 2-day “Perinatal Mood Disorders, Components of Care” and “Advanced Psychotherapy” 1-day training.  She also speaks frequently to communities, nursing schools, grand rounds, and conferences.

Kara M. Brown, MD

Kara M. Brown, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist with an interest in reproductive psychiatry. She has completed additional training in women's mental health and spent several years treating people with a variety of reproductive concerns in different clinical settings. She founded NOLA Reproductive Psychiatry in 2021 with the goals of providing high-quality perinatal mental health care to birthing individuals in New Orleans and educating the community at large regarding reproductive mental health. Her practice focuses on creating individualized treatment plans for individuals in the form of diagnostic evaluations and second-opinion consultations, and she utilizes a variety of psychotherapy modalities and prescribe medication when necessary.

Prior to founding NOLA Reproductive Psychiatry, she was a staff psychiatrist and women’s mental health co-champion at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System, and before that, she was a psychiatrist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, and women’s mental health fellowship director for BWH/Harvard Medical School.
