Description: This curriculum provides practical guidance on the diagnosis and management of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), a chronic, immune-mediated disease of the esophagus with rising prevalence. Learners will engage with current diagnostic algorithms, examine treatment options including dietary therapy, topical corticosteroids, and biologics, and explore strategies to meet payer documentation requirements for timely access to care. Designed for gastroenterologists, allergists, and other clinicians involved in the care of patients with EoE, the program emphasizes accurate diagnosis, coordinated multidisciplinary care, and personalized, evidence-based treatment planning.

Thomas Schussler

Schussler Gastro LLC

As a board-certified gastroenterologist with more than two decades of experience in both inpatient and outpatient digestive disease management, I am well-prepared to facilitate a focused, evidence-based discussion on eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). My clinical background includes extensive experience with diagnostic endoscopy, esophageal pathology, motility evaluation, and the longitudinal management of complex inflammatory and immune-mediated gastrointestinal conditions. Throughout my career, I have emphasized patient-centered communication, multidisciplinary collaboration, and clear, accessible education for trainees, colleagues, and patients.

In leading a group discussion on EoE, I aim to create an environment that promotes clinical reasoning, practical application of current guidelines, and open dialogue. My approach integrates endoscopic findings, histologic criteria, elimination diets, topical steroid therapy, and biologic-based strategies, while ensuring that participants can connect emerging evidence to real-world decision-making. I have served as a clinical preceptor, lecturer, and mentor for medical students and residents across multiple institutions, and I consistently strive to foster clarity, curiosity, and meaningful interaction within teaching sessions.

My experience across diverse health systems has strengthened my ability to guide multidisciplinary conversation, anticipate diagnostic challenges, and highlight best practices in contemporary EoE management. As a group leader, my goal is to support an engaging and informative learning experience, encourage thoughtful participation from all attendees, and ensure that important nuances in EoE diagnosis and treatment are clearly understood.
